Today's top lines

  • Trump back on the trail in person. After earlier plans shifted to phone-in rallies, President Trump is set to hold in-person events Sunday in Iowa and Kansas, where Republican Sen. Roger Marshall faces a competitive challenge from Democrat Adam Hamilton, Fox News and The Epoch Times reported.
  • Texas early vote hits a record. About 7.4 million Texans voted early, roughly 40% of registered voters, in line with the 2018 midterm high, according to preliminary state data reported by The Texas Tribune. The two newest polls listed by RealClearPolling split: Quantus shows Paxton up 1 point; CNN shows Talarico up 6.
  • Alaska seeks dismissal of DOJ suit. State officials asked a federal judge to throw out a Justice Department lawsuit that seeks to delay certifying the Senate result if Sen. Dan Sullivan loses to Democrat Mary Peltola. The state called the suit "meritless."
  • Johnson predicts GOP holds the House. Speaking at a Michigan rally for Senate nominee Mike Rogers, House Speaker Mike Johnson said polls underestimate Republican enthusiasm and that close races will turn on turnout, Fox News reported.
  • New Senate polls in Minnesota and Maine. A New York Times/Siena poll shows Democrat Peggy Flanagan leading Republican Michele Tafoya 54% to 40%, and KSTP/SurveyUSA has her up 48% to 41%. In Maine, a CNN poll shows Democrat Troy Jackson at 49% and Sen. Susan Collins at 45%.
