Fort George, an eighteenth-century fortification overlooking the harbor, offers panoramic views over the town and coastline. The Grenada National Museum traces the island’s history from its Indigenous Carib roots through French and British colonial rule. St. George’s Market Square, especially lively on Saturdays, sells the nutmeg and spices that have earned Grenada the nickname the Spice Isle. The town’s pastel buildings and red-tiled roofs, rebuilt after Hurricane Ivan in 2004, give St. George’s a resilient charm. Its harbor setting and spice heritage make it one of the most distinctive capitals in the Caribbean.
