Bogyoke Aung San Market offers gems, textiles, and lacquerware within a sprawling covered colonial-era building. Kandawgyi Lake and the nearby Chauk Htat Gyi reclining Buddha add further stops for a day spent exploring the city on foot or by trishaw. Yangon’s mix of golden pagodas and crumbling colonial facades gives the city a layered, slightly time-worn character unlike anywhere else in the region. It remains the natural starting point for a wider journey through Myanmar.
