The Pyongyang Metro, built deep underground and decorated with murals and chandeliers, doubles as both transit system and Cold War-era showcase. Mansudae Grand Monument’s giant bronze statues remain the most visited site for organized tour groups. Along the Taedong River, the Juche Tower’s observation deck offers the best overview of the capital’s rigid, symmetrical layout. Visits to Pyongyang are only possible on guided tours, giving a tightly controlled but genuinely unique look at the country.
