The Central State Museum traces Kazakhstan’s nomadic and Soviet-era history, while Green Bazaar offers a lively look at local produce, spices, and dried fruits. Kok Tobe hill, reached by cable car, gives panoramic views over the city and mountains beyond. Just outside town, the Medeu ice rink sits at high altitude beneath the Shymbulak ski resort, both popular day trips from the city. Almaty’s combination of mountain scenery and Soviet-era architecture makes it Kazakhstan’s most visited city.
