Luxembourg City
Luxembourg City perches dramatically over deep river gorges, its Old Quarter and fortifications earning UNESCO World Heritage status for one of Europe’s most strategically built cities. The Bock Casemates, a network of tunnels carved into the cliffside, can be explored on foot for views down into the Alzette valley.

Notre-Dame Cathedral’s Gothic spires anchor the upper town, just steps from the Grand Ducal Palace, the official residence of Luxembourg’s royal family. The Chemin de la Corniche walking path, often called Europe’s most beautiful balcony, traces the old ramparts above the Grund district. Down in the Grund, riverside restaurants and bars occupy restored buildings beneath the cliffs, connected to the upper town by elevators and winding stairways. Luxembourg City’s compact, layered geography makes it one of Europe’s most visually striking capitals.
