Poverty: The Solomon Islands government is making strides to reduce poverty through the National Development Strategy 2016-2035. The strategy aims to enhance rural development and improve living standards. It is expected that this long-term strategy will lift thousands of people out of poverty.
Hunger: The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, with support from the Food and Agriculture Organization, has launched the Country Programming Framework (CPF) aimed at food security. The framework focuses on strengthening sustainable agricultural systems to increase food production and ensure the populace is well fed.
Healthcare: In partnership with the World Health Organization, the Solomon Islands government is working on the Health Sector Support Program to improve healthcare services. The program aims to enhance the health of the population, with a strong focus on women, children, and vulnerable groups. Furthermore, Australia's Health Sector Program is providing AUD$24 million over four years to improve healthcare services, particularly maternal and child health.
Education: Education receives substantial support from the Solomon Islands Government and development partners. The World Bank’s READ SI (Readiness for Education Achievement and Development in Solomon Islands) project aims to improve basic education in the country. The Australian Government also provides significant support through the Solomon Islands Education Program, enhancing the quality of education and expanding access.
Gender Equality: The government has partnered with the United Nations and other international organizations to promote gender equality. The National Policy on Gender Equality and Women's Development is one such initiative. It promotes women's rights, equality, and empowerment. The policy is expected to reduce gender-based violence and increase women's participation in leadership.
Clean Water Sanitation: Efforts to improve clean water and sanitation are ongoing in the Solomon Islands. The Rural Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Program, supported by UNICEF, aims to improve water, sanitation, and hygiene services for over 20,000 people living in rural areas. The project targets four provinces, Choiseul, Guadalcanal, Malaita, and Western.
Affordable Clean Energy: The Solomon Islands government, in partnership with the Asian Development Bank, is working on the Tina River Hydropower Development Project, which will reduce the country's reliance on expensive imported diesel for electricity. This project will increase access to affordable, reliable, and clean energy, particularly in Honiara, the capital city.
Economic Growth: The government's National Development Strategy 2016-2035 is centered on fostering broad-based economic growth. The World Bank's Rapid Employment Project has also provided short-term employment opportunities to over 13,000 Solomon Islanders. The Solomon Islands Government has also signed the PACER Plus trade agreement, aimed at promoting trade and economic growth.
Industry Innovation: The Solomon Islands Small and Medium Enterprises Council, with support from the Asian Development Bank, is promoting industry innovation. Efforts include fostering a conducive environment for business innovation, encouraging entrepreneurship, and facilitating access to finance for small and medium-sized enterprises.
Reduced Inequalities: The National Development Strategy aims to promote inclusive socio-economic development and reduce inequalities. Furthermore, the Solomon Islands Government, in partnership with the United Nations, is implementing the Joint Programme on Social Protection. This program seeks to build a comprehensive and inclusive social protection system, contributing to poverty reduction and reducing inequalities.
Sustainable Cities: The Honiara Urban Resilience & Climate Action Plan (HURCAP), funded by the UN Development Programme, aims to help the city adapt to climate change, enhance resilience, and promote sustainable urban development.
Responsible Consumption and Production: The Solomon Islands government is working with the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) to promote sustainable consumption and production. This involves enhancing waste management and promoting the sustainable use of natural resources.
Climate Action: The Solomon Islands government is taking bold climate action. The National Climate Change Policy aims to mitigate and adapt to climate change. The country has also developed a National Adaptation Plan, funded by the Green Climate Fund, which focuses on ten sectors including agriculture, fisheries, water, and health.
Aquatic Environment: The Solomon Islands is working with the Coral Triangle Initiative to protect its aquatic environment. The program focuses on preserving coral reefs, fisheries, and food security in the region. It aims to manage marine resources sustainably to benefit the country's population, many of whom rely on these resources for their livelihoods.
Natural Environment: The government is working to protect its natural environment. It is part of the Guadalcanal Plains Palm Oil Limited (GPPOL) project, which focuses on sustainable palm oil production and rainforest conservation. The government is also working with international partners on reforestation initiatives to restore degraded forests.
Peace and Justice Institutions: The Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI), supported by the Pacific Islands Forum, worked from 2003-2017 to restore law and order. Current initiatives focus on enhancing the capacity of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force and strengthening the judiciary to uphold peace and justice.

Partners include the United Nations, World Bank, Asian Development Bank, and Australia.
