For the summer months, a large terrace or a garden often takes on the role of a living room, offering unique moments of relaxation, or even joy with friends. It is true that nowadays even the smallest escapes to summer relaxation remain a valuable escape from the routine of everyday life. And when I was typing this by shorter getaways, I included those that are one step away from the front door or even the balcony door of my house.

But the garden, or the terrace, should be able to support these moments. And to put it simply, you should be able to sit somewhere, touch a plate or your coffee somewhere, something that can support your every need and requirement of the functionality of the space.

The first step in the garden or on the terrace

But let's start from the beginning. You must in every way ensure that our space will be as functional as possible. You are not talking about vast gardens or huge terraces. You will adjust your thoughts to the most dignified average. Thus, space is essentially relatively limited for our movements. It will be good to be sure that your every step will be unhindered. To better plan the strategic layout of the space I, personally always look from the center to the edges, and of course from the access point to the center of the space.

Choice of furniture

This may be one of the most difficult steps as the simplest mistakes are made here. An exaggeration could suffocate the space and cancel its functionality, a limited choice could create a lack of functionality. So, when I talk about classic samples of spaces, both in the garden and on the terrace, it would be good to choose proposals for compositions, always having in mind the above step.

It is a matter of style

Once we find a composition size that is ideal for the dimensions of our space, you must choose its color and design features. The safest path that leads to the right choice is that of matching the style of the composition with the characteristics of the exterior style of the house. In a classical style, the industrial style cannot be easily tied in harmony; in a modern structure, a composition with a traditional style looks out of place. So, you have to think very carefully about how to connect the detail with the overall picture.

Let me dispel the illusions

One of the well-known comments you usually hear is that plastic goes with everything. So a set with plastic chairs and a table would be ideal? Let me be absolute: In no case could a plastic table with plastic chairs stand and support your space, no matter how many fabrics it is dressed in. It is not just a matter of material, it is a matter of quality. It could not last for some years. It wears out faster than the moments of enjoyment it could offer you, and combined with the limitations in durability and practicality, it will probably very soon turn into an injured and dysfunctional ensemble in the middle of your garden or patio.

Create your own composition, to your own measures, to your own taste, but you should always follow two basic rules: the measure of functionality, from the position and size and the definition of the aesthetics of the space, from its wider aesthetics of the whole. Once these two parameters are identified, it is the turn of the placement and the grooming. Give color even to the classic, with the vibrancy of the flower. In other words, create the feeling of coolness that comes from the plants and enjoy unique moments with comfort and functionality.
